Does anyone know what the factory sized subwoofer was for the 99 340 Sundancer? I believe it went under the companion seat aft of the fire extinguisher. It appears that a 10" might fit. Anyone know?

I installed a 10" in my '99 340 in the location you mentioned. Worked famously except for the movement/rattle on the storage door. At higher volumes I had to leave the hatch/door open otherwise it was unbearable. Consider cutting a vent in the door as part of your project to ease the annoyance...

FWIW I find that location was nearly ideal for using a single sub in a boat this size. My 400 has a single sub next to the helm and the bass levels in the back of the boat are noticeably lower than on my 340...

That's great info. Thank you. I wondered about the door and air movement. I have access to water jet and was thinking about water jetting the boat name / Logo in the door and adding some adhesive rubber to the top corners where it would be difficult to notice.

Share pics of the door when you cut it! That would be slick.

10" was the sub size from the factory...my boat did not have the upgraded stereo system so it did not have a sub...i installed a 10" Polk Audio sub and replaced the cockpit speakers with matching Polk Audio 6" speakers....

Thanks everyone. I'll definitely post pics of the storage door. I replaced the entire system with an infinity unit and all 4 cockpit speakers. They look very similar to the Polk ones in these pics. The speakers have LED lights integrated and I tied them in with the arch lights so the speakers light up when the arch lights are on. I'm not sure I'll keep it that way because they get drowned out by the arch lights. I'd rather have them on a separate switch or with the cockpit lights, but for now that's how they're wired. After installing the new system I realized I need a sub. Anyone have a recommendation for an AMP? I'll have to find a spot for it too. There are already two amps behind the stereo.

i installed the amp for the sub behind the storage panel beside the captain's seat....there is plenty of room behind there....on my boat there was an opening between this area and the storage under the captain's seat that made running the speaker wires easy....

I installed all of my gear in the starboard storage locker next to the mid-cabin. Made for very easy access to all the wiring...

You're probably looking at higher-end equipment than I installed if you've already gone with Infinity. But I've had great luck with Rockford Fosgate amps. On both my 340 and now my 400 I've paired these low-cost amps with JL speakers and have been quite pleased. I'm not an audiophile, for the record.

This photo was mid-installation, obviously. I didn't leave the wiring like that :)

Choose the woofer first, as it will dictate the ideal amp.

Also, if you go with an infinite-baffle woofer and the back of the woofer is in the locker with the said rattling door, I would not suggest cutting a vent in the door. This could likely create phase issues with the woofer.

I'm not a pro but I can tell you that my JL 10" sounded great with the door open. It was an infinite baffle version...

This is the woofer that matches the rest of the system and the one I plan to use. Any thoughts on AMP or the vent issue?

Power handling, id look for an amp thats going to deliver between 250-300 watts rms @ 4 ohm.

Its not a true IB woofer and would be better suited in a sealed enclosure. You can run any woofer in an IB alignment, however there performance and sound quality may suffer a little. A better quality mono amp would go along way.

For the same investment you can get a true IB woofer https://www.kicker.com/kmf-10-inch-4-ohm-subwoofer and RGB LED grill in either charcoal or white https://www.kicker.com/kmg-10-inch-marine-subwoofer-white-led-grille

Is there a secret to getting the LED wiring from forward port speaker to head unit? Where do I run? Also, for the life of me, I couldn't get electrical push/pull pole to find hole in starboard arch to drop wire down - broke two of them during the attempt - is there access behind the vinyl pad? If so, is that glued on? Thanks for any tips!

The vinyl pads are set in with Christmas tree clips. They pull out. I set my speaker LED's with the arch lights for now. Next winter I'll run them on a separate switch.
