I was at my local retailer today looking at the various grease types my manual specifies for my 3.0 Mercruiser sterndrive, and quite frankly, the prices just seem silly. Do any of you guys have recommendations? I just picked up this boat (my first sterndrive after decades of outboards) and it is long out of warranty. For outboards and PWCs I used various types of name brand marine grease, along with Bel Ray waterproof grease.

I do know that using the wrong grease can damage some parts. I believe others have tried to find equivalents. Honestly, you would probably be better off just buying it online cheaper than trying to find a substitute with the same makeup and running the risk of causing you headaches. I think you can get by with 2 Merc greases to cover almost everything. You probably won't go through the grease that quick anyway. The Merc grease can be found cheaper online.
