After a late launch this season I had the unfortunate joy of finding my Sub Zero frig unit wasn't cooling. Light is on so I have power, but it's not cooling. What are the odds on this unit from my yr 2000 boat just needing a freon charge? Or am I most likely looking at a new unit?

The problem will either be electronic (circuit control board, power supply, etc.) or mechanical (refrigerant, compressor). Cost to diagnose might be significant depending on where you are, access to technicians, and access to the unit. How comfortable are you getting your hands dirty to diagnose? The odds of the unit 'just needing a Freon charge' and then working fine for another 16 years... are as good as zero... First thing you want to do since you know it has power is check and fuses for the compressor and check to see if the compressor is getting power. Does the unit run on 12v and 120 VAC or just 120?
