OK so I religiously check the fluids in the engine and transmission prior to leaving the dock.. All is well.

Can someone give me some insights into HOW to keep the darn dipstick wedged in place in the transmission... I thought it screwed in but it is just a plunger and it is an absolute B!@#CH to get to stay in. I lay on top of the engine and force and twist it down till I feel it flush with the lip of the transmission. But as soon as I get back to the dock its loose and resting on the top of the transmission... Is there a certain angle or alignment that is needed.

Is there a certain magic way to install these??? :smt100

I believe they are Hurth transmissions on the Vdrives..

Thanks for sharing!!!

your is red with a t handle and the rubber looks like a drain plug. you are supposed to unscrew the t handle while holding the dipstick and it will loosen the rubber piece. after that the dipstick should slide into the trans easy then turn the thandle to tighten it up. If it is blowing out after a ride you might have a problem with your transmission making to much pressure or on the transmission there is a vent on the transmission that might be corrodded or clogged not letting the pressure out and pushing the dipstick out. If you need a pic of the vent I can get you one tomorrow. just pm me to remind me.

Yep. Mine does that. Red handle with a rubber fitting (gasket?). Also, mine always hold pressure. I think it's a vacuum. Everytime I open them, they draw in the exact amount of air, stbd and port (or blow out). They always have.

When I put the plug/dipstick back in, I hold the flange down with my left hand while I tighten the T with my right. The screwing action compresses and thus expands the rubber and makes a tight fit. If you don't hold the flange, somtimes it will expand the rubber but most times it just keeps spinning (as you have found out).

Ahh thanks for the reply. Yes it is a red T handle. I will unscrew it and hopefully I have not broken it by trying to force it in. I don't think I have as I just get it in there and it just seems to work itself loose due to vibration under way.
