I have a leaking rudder post, I called algonac cast and asked if they sold a wrench that would be able to tighten down the packing nut and the jam nut. I was told that the packing nut needs a 2 7/8" wrench for which I can not find. So does anyone know of a wrench that can be used for this packing nut?

I just did this last week with a pipe wrench on my 340, so it is do-able. Not exactly pleasant, but can be done.

I use this for my rudder nuts. Any hardware store has them. IN the picture its opened to the rudder nut size.

The jam nut, the thin lower one, hit with small ball lean hammer in the direction you want it to go. Just striking the flat hex area, like a glancing shot. Once loose, it will back off by hand. I would use a wire brush to clean up threads prior to this and hit with wd40. The nose, or big cap use adjustable wrench. Don't over tighten, some drip is ok to keep lubed. Bring small nut back up, hit it easy again to lock in place.
