Available storage space on the 280 is very limited. I started thinking about the cr$p that was on the boat last year that is not going back on this year...

o home-made fender boards (read an article somewhere about using pvc pipes)
o poker chips
o snorkeling gear
o 30 feet ot 3/4" line
o remote controlled 48 Sundancer
o various tools
o lots of boat waxes, washing mits, window cleaners, etc..
o coffee machine

Plan is to keep it most of in the dock box... until that gets filled-up.. (Advice to anyone shopping for a dockbox.. do yourself a favor and get the bigger one...)

we pulled everything off our 250 to get her ready to sell a few weeks ago and I was shocked at all the stuff that was on that boat. I am really suprised the thing didn't sink from all the weight. There are definately things that are not going on the "new" boat.

And I am shopping for a new dock box and will take your advice.

I don't think there is anyone that can put more stuff in a 280 than me. It took me 3 trips to get everything off the boat.

No coffee??? heck i have a coffee pot and a french press on the boat, along with a half dozen different kinds of coffee. I think my GF must have gone without a lot during childhood and is making up for it now. I also bet no one has as many different kinds of salt in their boat as I do. Sea salt, regular salt, finely ground salt, some kind of salt from india. One bedroom is totally dedicated to just the stuff that came off the boat.

I 2nd the bigger dock box. I thought I didn't need one that big, so I bought one about 4' long, took it to the lake, loaded it up...and thought this is too little. Took it back and then bought a 6'....it is full too....maybe should have bought a 7' or 8'. But those things are so expensive.

I have two dock boxes.

Salt made the cut and stays... needed for those lovely summer time 'ritas....

I think we are going to have to get two also......as I have four kids and seemed to have adopted most of their friends we have a million life jackets. I think they were breeding over the winter.

Scott..that is a great idea....#2 may be added in the next year or two. I wanted a "safe" place to put the cockpit cover during the weekend, but know my box is so full of other "junk"...it is hard to get the cover in the box.

I never knew I did so much writing on the boat either, but apparently so. 3 pencils, 4 pens, 2 magic markers, 8 pads of paper.

I too have been amazed as to how much "stuff" one accumulates on a boat. Unfortunately, it took the rather drastic step of trading up to a bigger boat to get me to remove all the stuff from the old boat and appreciate the need to prioritize.

What I concluded is that trying to have different stuff for different activities is what leads to the problem. I often take different friends out on the boat with different age groups represented so I need stuff for kids, stuff for water sports, stuff for BBQ'ing, stuff for cooking, a dingy for dogs and trips to shore, etc., etc., etc.

We clean the boat out at the end of every season. It's amazing how much "stuff" build up in there. One year we had about 10 bags of food that was stuffed all over the boat! Gatorade, canned food, boxed food etc. The kitchen cupboards were overflowing because of all the food retrieved from the boat. I told the admiral no more! We've done a much better job since then of taking inventory and bringing only what we need each weekend. Amazingly that freed up storage space to allow us to put clothes and other things away and suddenly the boat seemed a lot larger inside.

We're just starting to pack it on......But, we've sorted and filtered through all the stuff that came off the last boat. It's all getting reorganized...slowly.

We empty the boat in the fall, too. Then, in the spring we do the usual sorting and "not this year!". And that fall, we're always amazed at how much comes back off the boat. As Drama Queen says, I think it must multiply.

Plus with so much less food to eat your cloths can be smaller. It’s a win-win.

I guess I just can't relate to all that packing and unpacking. Our boat is ready to go anytime but then we are in Florida.

And it doesn't list as much when I walk from one side of the boat to the other!!
