I just bought a 2008 185 sport last week, and I notice the stripe tape was in bad shape on the port side. I decided to find some to replace it when I just started to take it off and the boat looks great with out it. Can someone tell me the purpose of the tape? I took it off all the way around and it looks so much better because the tape was wavy, and the factory two tone line is nice and straight.

Went to my local Marine Max and looked a a few brand new boats with no tape stripe, I guess it must not be a big deal.

Never seen that before -- did you buy the boat new? That doesn't look like it came from the factory.

On some SRs tape is used to cover the transition from one color of gel to another. The line frequently has imperfections in it and the tape covers these up. Your boat apparently was gelcoated with more care than is usually the case. Leave the tape off. You don't need it.

Great thanks for the answer !
