Hello,

We have an '03 280 Sundancer and are having problems with our butane stove. At first we noticed the butane was leaking out (cans were empty too fast) and now it will leak butane quickly when a can is inserted.

The stove model number is B23006, it's a Kenyon. I Googled it and could not find any information other than where to buy a new one. Has anyone had a similar problem or know anything about this stove? Maybe how to fix it?

Thanks for your help,

David

I had the same problem, got the stove out, and sent it to Kenyon, got a new one that as been working just great. Just happy the whole thing did not blow up everything around us.....

Hi Dave,

Welcome to CSR. Please ad a signature with your boat detail. This will help us when you ask other questions.

PS, those 280 Sundancers are great boats. Let us know if you have other questions.

i have the same exact same stove and had the exact same problem! sent it kenyon and they repaired it for $60, cost me $18 to ship it to them and they shipped it back for free. great/very nice people to deal with and sure beats the cost of a replacement @ $350. give them a call they will take care of you...

I had it repaired back in 2008 when I started this thread, now it's leaking butane again. Going to send it in tomorrow for a second repair. Although it is inconvenient to have the recurring problem, they sure are nice at Kenyon. I approve of their customer service.

I have a "98" 215EC that has a Kenyon KISS stove; I noticed a butane leak in the canister enclosure; I removed it right away; called Kenyon International; talked to Frank; mailed it to him and had it rebuilt; now it works excellent again. Customer service at Kenyon is outstanding. Frank asked two things of me; 1) oil the tip of the butane canister each time I use it with 30W oil; 2) remove the butane canister everytime I am done cooking.

David,

I'm not sure if ours was the same model, but our stove went on fire the second season with the boat when we went to use it after the winter. We were never informed to oil the seal/o-ring nor to remove the butane cylinder after every use. I found that out after the fire.

Most fortunately, I got my wife out of the cabin and extinguished the fire quickly with minor charring of the wood under the stove. We were VERY lucky.

I called Kenyon and got the impression that this was not a rare incident -- even though they denied any recalls or known defects. Since my wife was now terrified of the butane, they did the right thing and offered whatever stovetop I wanted whether it be butane, alcohol, electric or an electric and alcohol combo model.

See http://www.cookwithkenyon.com/collections/cooktops

They replaced it under the warranty and even offered to FedEx it to the Marina in Fire Island where we were staying for the week.

I had a new combination electric and alcohol stove delivered and waiting for me for when I got home with a portable "gift" butane stove from Kenyon. By the way, the reason I said that I suspected that it was not a rare incident because they also shipped me a sleeve for the stove so it would fit into the hole from the old stove without any issues. If it wasn't a stove that had problems, then how come they happened to have a ready-made sleeve for people who replaced it with a different model ?

I replaced it in less than a half-hour and shipped them back the old stove. It cost me about $35 for an additional breaker for my panel.

The downside is that two years later (1) I am still cleaning fire extinguisher powder out of my cabin and (2) people we run into periodically remember us as "the boat that had the cabin fire at Sailor's Haven."
