I just picked a 2006 185 Sport and would like some additonal storage for some trips. Is ther anything wrong with using the sides in the engine compartment?? I'm thinking like a secured locker/cooler of some sort.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

I put my cooler I've had for twenty years on one side of the engine. The compartment gets hot, but probably no hotter then your car locked up in the parking lot, and the cooler works fine. I also bought an $8.00 clothes basket at Wally World to help organize ski jackets, and keep my throwable PFD's wedged ahead of the basket, and behind the seat. When the jackets are out, the basket still holds volleyballs and some misc. water toys while underway. I don't know if it works in yours, but the engine compartment walls in mine have notches that allow me to put my bimimi top down in the compartment. Love that for towing over distances, and putting my boat cover on.

Missed the picture of my high dollar clothes basket! Keeps things tidy. The yellow thing is the PFD tucked ahead of it.

Nothing wrong with that at all. Just don't pile stuff on the components against the transom. I have 2 rubbermaid bins on each side and still room for a cooler on the other. I actually replaced the thin board separating the engine with rigid fiberglass and have a bracket on there to attach the bins so they stay put, but that's not really necessary.

Thanks for all the responses, i appreciate it. Will try some stuff next week
thanks
