Stone Chips in Gelcoat 230 OV

on a tangent

I have a 1996 230 OV with beautiful burgundy gelgoat - except where the guy that owned it briefly early on must have taken it down some gravel roads to his cottage. There are little white "specs" in the burgundy gelcoat that look like stone marks, but they're not real deep.

Does anyone have any secrets to polishing and/or removing these things without putting too much time into wetsanding? Is there a particular finishing compound that works well for polishing these out (maybe with a wheel)?

Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem myself (very shallow chips from stones) and I think I am going to try wet sanding first to see if that works. I bought the spectrumn kit but since I have black gelcoat I am unsure of what my results would be.

I am going to fill and sand in the pearl gelcoat...hoping this will turn out ok for a first timer.

Someone once told me to use polyurethane on the chips but I have never seen the final results. So I cant say if this works well or if it would hold up.
