Taught both my daughters at about the same age (although a bit more than 10 years ago!)


I did my best to take the “mystery” and “forbidden” allure away from guns. They could ask me at any time to handle them if they wanted or any questions and I’d never say “no”. They never felt the need to play with them since there was no mystique about it.

I did the same with my sons. I taught them to shoot and how to break down, clean and reassemble the weapons that they shot. That took all the curiosity away.
 
That's what my Dad did with me. That's what I did with my two kids. Mine were fascinated by the handguns. They were shooting before they could even hold them up to aim. I told them, anytime, just say so and we'll go shoot. It didn't take long and shooting was no big deal. Neither of them has any interest in guns, hunting/shooting as adults but they know how to handle them safely.

I did the same. She has asked to look at my carry pistol multiple times when it was on the coffee table. I showed her how to check for clear and proper way to handle them.
 
My kids started shooting at a young age. I taught them proper use, safety, maintenance, etc. Now all 4 have CCW's (well 1 is a cop so doesn't need a CCW).
