STILL cannot get the 454 started.....help

It's not the neutral saftey switch. It only cuts off power to the starter. Think about it if you were in gear you wouldn't want the props to turn even if the engine didn't start.
The kill switch shuts off power to the coil.
Have you checked the switch interrupter switch. It will cut off power to the coil momentarily when the boat is shifted into and out of gear.

Opps ignore the shift interrupter switch, I think these are on on IOs

Where is the neutral safety switch on TRS outdrives? Since the transmission is separate from the outdrive, my guess is that it is in the transmission. If it is open, the ignition module is grounded and you won't get voltage to the coil/plugs.

Sorry gotta call you on that one Frank. As explained above the neutral safety switch cuts power to the starter not to the coil.

might have to call in a pro. thanks for all the input all. I have a trans but its not on it. I believe the switch is in the control shifter but pretty sure like a few of you said it will not allow the engine to crank. once this is all over I am pretty sure I am gonna laugh because its gotta be something small that was somehow overlooked.

so my ignition amplifier is shot hence the no spark.......got a delco remy distributor and ignition all in one for free from a friend of mine just wondering if anyone has used it and if they have any issues?

That's the Thundbolt Modual...brick of a box. Mine is mounted on the riser. Be very sure you have the correct ICM. There will be a marking mine are V8-22. The 22 is the advance for the engine. The new ICM's are nice, lightweight, and just plug in. I've replaced one and have one as a spare. When I did mine I also replaced the wiring harness at the same time.

As I said before, when mine went bad I could start the engine but not advance higher tha 1000rpm's.

It is a dub you can do without paying a service guy. I took photos of everything before I took a single thing loose

ill have to check but if it works and I can't go over 1000 ill take it. all I need is to have enough power to get it to a ramp and ill deal with it next spring. was out there today doing the swap and I couldn't get the damn thing to seat all the way down, looks like I needed a gasket or spacer or maybe I didn't do it right but a horrible rain storm kinda cut it short.

not sure but I swapped the distributors. now I can't get the new one to seat all the way down on the block....about 1/4 inch gap.

Alright now you've gon beyond my scope. Just a question, why replace the dist? Just to remove the old Thunderbolt system? Just wondering is all

That sounds like the oil pump isn't lined up.
Normal to have that happen when installing a new distributor.
Bump the starter for a second and it should drop down into position.
You can also turn the motor with a wrench on the front pulley.

thanks,,, was a little nervous about that so I put the old one back in and it wouldn't sit down all the way either

Go to youtube and watch the "MSD Ignition" instructional videos.
They are using a 350 Chevy small block on the test stand but, most of it will apply to what your doing.

Then, you'll know what questions to ask...

Mark.
