Stern transformer storage hatch on 97 330 dancer need help

The door on the back of the boat won't close all the way and won't latch. Do I need to take it and hinges off and fill in old holes and re align? Has anyone done this and how difficult is it to get lined up correctly?
 
No, not difficult at all. The Transom Hatch is held into position by one long hinge with multiple screws. The gas cylinder puts more pressure on one side of the hatch then the other. The screws can loosen over time and may even strip out if you try and tighten them. I pulled the hatch and filled the holes with epoxy and re-drilled. You may want to replace your two slam latches as well. I replaced mine with stainless steel latches purchased from FP Marine. I used the center of the existing holes as a locator when drilling the new holes, the hatch lined right up with the opening. I cannot recall how the hinge is attached to the transom, through bolted or screwed, I do not think I removed the hinge from the boat.
