hi all,

I want to put an amp in my new 240da but am not sure where I can run the speaker wire, turn on lead and RCAs to get to the deck (located below in the galley) Any insight would be great Thanks. I think I will mount the amp in the bilge next to the battery charger.

Thanks

Getting from the bilge to the cabinet in the cabin is not easy. I know this because I have done it running a cable for my tv install. You have to cross over from the starboard side where the charger is located to the port side. From there you'll see where all the plumbing, wiring etc penetrates the bulkhead. First job is to carefully remove some of the 100lbs of silicone sealant they used to close up this penetration. Then you need to remove the 90deg right angled trim panel inside the mid cabin. It's easy to remove held by only 2 screws. From there it's 90deg up and 90deg to the right for about 7' to the main distrubution panel. This panel is also easy to remove and has enough slack in the wiring to let you move it aside without any disconnecting. The last step is to remove the microwave. Very easy, there are 3 screws below it that connect the microwave base to the shelf above. Slide the microwave out and the entire cabinet back is exposed. There is even a 110v outlet right there to use. I used it for my tv/dvd players.

sounds like a fun project :smt021 . Thanks for the help!!

It's not that bad, I did it myself in about and hour and a half. You do need an electrical snake to make the pull from the distribution panel the the mid cabin access panel though. Just make sure all power, ac and dc is off when you are accessing these areas.

Did you do this project already?

I am about to tackle this project this weekend.

How come you didnt use the existing speaker wires?

So - maybe this is a dumb question - but are marine stereo amps suited for a bilge installation? I thought the marine grade audio equipment was primarily for moisture and vibration vs. spark.
