I had found a solution around the non existent aux input on the clarion unit by using my IPod classic and a transmitter. However, my IPod classic just hit the dust and they do not make them anymore so I don't have anything that will hold all of my music anymore. Now I am looking to upgrade the head unit to either a Bluetooth compatible unit and add some sort of hard drive to it to keep all the music and tv shows/movies on it. Any thoughts on this or has anyone done something similar? Also any recommendations for a head unit

My current thought is to upgrade the unit to a Bluetooth compatible unit and plug in the hard drive to the unit. Then run the hard drive to the chart plotter so I can control it out on the deck. Another option would be to have a computer down stairs, but that would be a pain to have to go down stairs every time I want to change the song.

Not sure if it helps, but I just recently removed my Clarion and put in a nice car Kenwood DDX8901HD. Had the head unit removed as well as the disc changer, and this took their place and I'm really happy with it as Bluetooth is my primary usage - plus having a screen allows me to see the adjustments I want to make.

The one bummer was it wouldn't connect to the marine remote input, but that was resolved nicely. In the marine remote hole we utilized a remote "eye" - so I can make any adjustments with a remote from anywhere on the deck, which is better than having to go push the marine remote buttons at the helm.
