steering problem

I have a teleflex Syten steering system on my 77 30' sedan bridge. Had real sloppy steering an a major leak at the fill plug in the lower helm. i decided to switch the two since the sedan bridge uses a breather cap. I started to refill the system. the system started to bind and throw fluid out of both helms. I noticed that two of the hoses going into the helms have 1 stripe on one and two stripes on another. Red downstairs and blue on the bridge. Any ideas? Last resort if i plug the lower bridge by pluggong each hose on the lower helm could I just use the sedan bridge as temporary fix?

strips on hoses - installer marked them which side goes where.
use correct cap for lower station and that should work
