I just bought a 1978 30' Sea Ray with a Sedan Bridge. I am having steering issues. The lower helm is leaking and the owner I bought the boat put some type of putty over the fill cap on the lower helm. I am getting a very spongy steering with heavy oversteer issues. I am wondering if I could plug the lower helm by diconecting the tubes and plugging them. What is the best way to repair and where can I find a new lower helm. The brand appears to be syren.

Thanks

Bill

There are two types of fill caps. Vented and non-vented. The lower station should have a non-vented cap and the upper should have a vented cap. You can remove the lower station by removing the tee connectors and just joining the tubes from the ram to the tubes from the upper.

No clue about that brand pump. It's before my time.

Best regards,
Frank

Thanks Frank. I also have multiple electrical issues. Any idea where I could get a electrical diagram on the boat? or a comprehensive repair manuel?

thanks

Bill, was the boat surveyed before you bought it??

No. I did not even know about a survey. I have a copy of the survey done in 1988.
