The steering in my boat has become difficult to turn and I have decided to replace the steering cable. The cable that is currently in the boat is a Teleflex SSC13417.

I see that there are also kits out there for just a little more money than the cable by itself. I believe the kit I need is SS14117. The kit includes a new rack helm - SH5210P.

My boat has tilt steering. Can anyone tell me if this helm shaft would be a direct replacement for what came OEM in the boat and if it would still work with my tilt?

Thanks

I just replaced cable/rack helm.
My understanding is that is the only way to replace it. The cable is attached to the rack and cannot be removed. Better off anyway because the rack could very well be what is causing your issue, makes for replacing it a bit of a pain though. Be sure to tie a string to the end of the cable before removing otherwise you will never guide the new one back down to the stern

your best bet is to call Searay 865-971-6250 give them your hull id # and they will tell you what part your boat came with and what OEM replacement part number is called for.
