Last September, I had the MarineMax dealership in Pensacola, FL where I bought my boat install a Yandina C-100 battery combiner, a Blue-Seas 5511e battery switch, and a second battery. The service manager wasn't familiar with the Yandina combiner but they said they could install it for me. I had bought the C-100 and switch earlier and brought them to the dealership for installation.

Now I am having intermittent starting problems and almost always have to set the battery switch to combined in order to start the boat even when both batteries appear to be fully charged. This happens even after I've run the boat for a while then let it sit in the water without anything electrical running like a radio, lights, or my GPS.

My first inclination is to find a local dealership or boat repair facility in the Mobile, AL area or close to where I live which was familiar with the installation of combiners and switches like the ones I have that could examine my boat. I could take it back to MarineMax but its about 1 1/2 hours each way from here to Pensacola pulling a boat which I'd like to avoid. They have a satellite store in Gulf Shores, AL which is a little closer but I don't believe they do repair work there.

Any constructive advice is much appreciated.

You say both batteries appear to be fully charged- how so?
Neither battery- by itself- will start the engine?

An incorrect installation would have been evident from day 1. Did you just get the boat back, or has it worked fine for a while and now doesn't? Have you confirmed your alternator output?

The fact that the engine does start when the batteries are paralleled would seem to indicate that it's not a corrosion or loose wire problem.

Thanks for the reply. I bit the bullet and took it back to MarineMax to let them figure it out.

If you can ,please post back with the results ...

Update: MarineMax struggled mightly (or so they tell me) to figure out what was causing my starting problems. One theory was that the stereo memory was abnormally draining the battery, which it was but not to the extent to cause the problems I was having. Finally they came to the conclusion that even though my original battery was less than a year old, it was not properly holding a charge and they replaced it for only the labor cost. Hopefully I can pick it up tomorrow or Saturday which will be nice since they've had it since June 1st.
