Hit the starboard switch at the helm; nothing; not a sound, not a click. ANy ideas?/

Thanks,

Paul

When you turn the switch to the on position, does the volt meter indicate 12+VDC? If it does, you most likely have a bad slave solenoid on that engine. You are 8 years old and in salt water so its about time. They are a $16 part so do both of then at the same time. If you don't get a voltage indication, check the big red master breaker on your engine or the ignition switch.

If you have diesels, none of the above is applicable...........Please complete your signature line with engine type so we don't have to guess at what we are trying to fix.

Maybe you bumped the shift out of neutral. That will do it every time.......

Thanks for the input. This is what I got back from service department:

"found that the wire harness on the engine had a pin that had busted and was causing an arc, which was tripping the breaker. The new harness is around $150"

Does this sound correct?

Thanks again.

hard to say if their diag. is correct, sure would like to see it before it was repaired if it was mine. also wondering why the whole harness needs to be replaced and not just repaired.
hope your not getting stroked.
i would consider what r- moss said

I know the guys at WB MM are pretty dependable but I can't think of any "harness" on a 7.4 that would only be 150 bucks. It'd have to be 3" long to be only 150 bucks for a Merc part. I would ask to see the damaged harness myself. The symptoms sound just like the starter solenoid as Frank stated.
