Port side engine starts just fine. I have to use the emergency start to start the Starboard engine. Once I let off the emergency start button it stalls. We made a trip across the lake and although I had to use the emergency start to start it, it stayed running. After sitting on the water of 3 or so hours and running the radio and a fan, it would not stay running. I had to press the emergency start button all the way to the dock. I have one brand new battery, but the other two are older. Do I just need to buy two more batters? It is just throwing me off that it won't stay running after starting. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What does your voltmeter say? Is the alternator charging?

If the alternator were working, it should be putting out enough juice to run the engine, even with a dead battery.

The battery's dead- it's a matter of figuring out if it's because it's not getting a charge from the alternator, or if it's shorted out internally.

Boats are simalar to cars. If you can get the engine started and the alternator is providing volatge it will run. It is my opinion that the alternator and battery are no longer providing what is needed. As a fix remove the alternator and take it to a parts place. They will check it for no charge and verify its condidtion. Hope this helps!

The guages are not really accurate enough to know the voltage, in my experience. They are a good indicator of it being different than you are used to seeing...

Use a digital voltmeter and check the voltages stopped, and with the engines running.

I agree it sounds like bad battery / batteries, and potentially an alternator problem. Did you replace the single battery or one of the parallel pair? It's usually best to replace all of them at once.

Bought two batteries last night and will install them this weekend. I will also check the breakers. However, don't really know what I am looking for there. Do I just see if one hast tripped?
