Jim,

I am interested in the gx2100 and have read the web and even talked to the Standard Horizon guys at Defenders warehouse sale to get some basic info. Do you happen to know if it will display my "buddies" on my Garmin 2006c with a NEMA 0183 connection? In other words will my older Garmin show AIS vessels and DSC locations for my friends if I have their mmsi numbers? I realize the radio has a screen which will show alot of info, but I hope it can communicate with my GPS.

I also got the e-mail from BOE and to my surprise, it states this radio is on sale :). When I go to checkout it reverts back to the std price. Is the sale only during the boat show days? (<<<edit - just re-read and I got the answer for this) Is the flush mount included?

Thanks for any advice you can offer,

Mark

The flush mount is not included. It is the MMB84. The radio will share AIS data with a chartplotter capable of displaying AIS data. Your friends would need an AIS transponder to make this work. I think what you may be after is the buddy tracking feature used with DSC, not AIS. I actually don't know if the buddy tracking feature will work between a Garmin unit and a SH unit. Anybody? I'd suggest calling SH and ask them about using DSC for this, not AIS.

Thanks Jim - After contacting Garmin today, it appears that my unit (2006c) won't accept the AIS info from the gx2100, only the DSC. So I will be able to see my "buddies" (via DSC) but not other vessels using AIS because the 2006c unit does not handle it. They told me that the 3006 units would display both DSC and AIS vessels. Standard Horizon was very helpful walking me thru the wiring set up for two Nema 0183 ports on my GPS. They wanted me to buy a SH chartploter of course...

I am still sold on this gx2100 and SH said they can't produce them fast enough.
