Just back into boating after 15 year hiatus. Loving our 225 Weekender but new to electronics. Our chart plotter tells us to upgrade data each time we turn it on. It has a C Map card in it dated Feb2013. Local dealer quotes $260 for new card. We are wondering if worth doing the upgrade (assuming our unit will accept an upgrade) or wait until Xmas and look for a brand new chart plotter under the tree. If we are to upgrade any advice on where to buy a new card?
We are located just outside Vancouver and cruising is mainly on Harrison L or Stave L, Howe Sound, Sunshine Coast. One day we will get brave and cross over to the Gulf Islands. Any guidance much appreciated.

How much do you like the plotter? If you like it fine and the message annoys you, update the card. Personally I don't think it's needed. Charts don't tend to change that much. There are many places on the internet to get a card.

If you don't particularly like it, consider that in the time since it was released many technology improvements have been made, like touch screens, screen visibility, etc. If you are inclined to replace it don't do the update. I'm sure Standard Horizon made a fine product, but they are not exactly known for their chart plotters like other are such as Garmin, Raymarine, Furuno, etc.

Thanks for that reply. What you say makes sense. We will use this chart plotter for rest of the season and then make electronics the focus of our trip to the Vancouver boat show next January.
