The most advanced electronic device on my boat is probably the television, followed by the depth sounder and VHF. The single 300 hp engine is carbureted.
The Kanawha River is my playground, and I know it well. I am familiar with about a 20 mile section of the Ohio River where it meets the Kanawha. So all my navigating is by paper chart and iPad.
We would like to extend our travels to include Cincinnati this summer, then on to Tennessee next summer.
So my concern is fuel and the consumption thereof. Obviously I need to maximize the fuel efficiency of my boat on such long trips to keep them affordable.
Does anybody have any recommendation for a non-NMEA unit?

You'll probably get a pretty good idea of GPH once you use the boat more, but take a look at FloScan. That would be my choice in this case. Dependable and accurate.

I should have stated that I have looked at Floscan - the Seies 7000 - but it requires a separate toggle switch to reset the hour meter. This seems rather inelegant to me, so now I'm looking for something similar with an integrated reset button.

I've got a FloScan and it does indeed have toggles to operate a handful of the options. I'm not sure I'd consider it inelegant compared to the other 30+/- toggles I have on my dashboard, however.

It works and is standalone. It's also a brand name you'll hear come up frequently. It seems like they may be the best game in town for what you're looking for, visual appearance notwithstanding.

Well, nothing says I have to mount a huge toggle switch in the middle of my dash, either. A microswitch strategically mounted would do fine.
I've always endorsed going with the industry standard in most things, looks like this is one of those things.
Thanks fellas!
