First run in 09. Fuel was stabilized. 1/4 old fuel in tank in boat drove to fuel dock. Filled anouther 1/4 in. Boat ran at idle speed fine. Put load on engine and at 2000 rpm's she stalls.
Change fuel filter. Starts. Runs at 2-3 thousand rpm's for 10 min. shut off. Start back up, idles fine put load on boat 2000 she stalls again. Wont start. Call mechanic. He comes over 30 min later, starts boat and runs boat to 4000 rpms no prob. This ever happen to anyone before?

Sure, it knows you were taking it to the doctor (or in your case he made a house call) and decided it better straighten up otherwise it's going to get a shot. Happens with cars, too. :smt001

I'd get all that gas out. Technically, stabilizer is only good for a year. Plus, you could have water in there. Plus, if the fuel you put in has ethanol, it is now loosening up any crud that may be in the bottom of your tank. I'd drain it, fill it back up with about 3 - 5 gallons, drain it again. Repeat.

Keep a couple spare filters on board with you.

I left one part out beacause I thought it was un-realted. I had water in my bilge every time it stalled. I thought it was a seperate issue. Perhaps a through hull fitting. I think it is comming out somewhere in the exaust or the bellows. I will update more tomarrow. I had pumped the bilge before the mechanic got there. So it ran fine until it filled back up. The sparkplug wires where underwater. Causing the stalling.

what do you mean the spark plug wires were underwater?

If you had enough water in your ER for your spark plug wires to be underwater, I would say that it's a pretty good reason why your boat is stalling.

Is there a part of the cooling system or part of the motor that has water going through it that would require pulling the engine to replace.

are they telling you they need to pull the engine?

Huh? why are you questioning the mechanics motives? He had enough water pouring out of his engine to submerge his spark plug wires.

did he say where the water was coming from? The whole engine has water running through it. You've got water running through the block, heads, manifolds, elbows. If he's pulling the engine, he must have given you a reason why he needs to pull it? is a head cracked? do you have water in the oil? is it too tight in the ER to work on it? INFO, we need more of it.

Turns out water was comming through bellows, had both replaced. There is a large one on the outside and a smaller one inside. Also replaced the raw water pump. I should be back in the water this weekend.

A carbed '92 7.4l does not have an Idle Air Controller.

180 degree to turn to the worst:

Why the heck does merc. cruiser make the bolts that go into the transom out of alluminum? They were rotted out to the point I could stick my finger into one of them. Why would not make them out of stainless steel. Do I have to pull the engine to replace them. They are located under the exaust horns, and look unreachable.

Insufficient data. How much water? How deep was it? (in inches) How far up the engine did the water level get? How wet is the engine? Where's the leak? etc.

None of the bolts are aluminum. The gimbal, inner plate, transom plate, etc are all aluminum.

about ten inches of water, just enough water to make the belts squeal. And I sware I saw the bolt with my own two eyes, it was alluminum. Its a 92 brava 2

finaly got the boat back in the water. Replaced the two bolts without pulling the engine. There is now a rachet wrench wedged in my bilge. I will need the jaws of life to get it out. Since Im the second owner the orginal owner replaced one of the two bolts with an alunium one. Well gess witch one rotted out and caused the water leak. Long story short..I am glad to have her back in the water.
