I would like to get a SS prop (4 blades) for my 1989 268DA, 7.4L 330 HP with a Bravo I - does anyone have any good suggestions. I do not want to run it, I just want enough to get out of the hole quicker and travel smoother.

There's a "prop selector" tool on Mercury's website that can help you.

Dropping a few inches of pitch will give you the better hole shot - just remember that you could over-rev the engine now (assuming you're currently running near the top of your WOT range).

Just out of curiosity... do you have trim tabs and do you use them?

In the end, it many times comes down to trial and error with different props. Hopefully someone that's "been there, done that" with a similar rig as yours will chime in.

Yes, I do have trim tabs and they are put to good use.

OK, then not to sway you from your original plan... but just to throw out another idea... what about increasing the size of your tabs instead of a new prop? That way you'll retain your full engine RPM range and won't have to rev it as high to attain your normal cruise speed. Just a thought!:smt001
