When unwinetizing the boat a few weeks ago I poured the condensate collected in the desiccant containers into the sinks in both heads, thinking nothing of it. Yesterday I went to clean both sinks and found the stainless bowls to be sverely stained and lightly corroded. I was able to polish most of it out with Meguiars Metal Polish. So far so good. Then I got the bright idea to get the rest of it using a piece of Scotch Bright pad (not sure of the grade, though it's a dark red) and Meguiars :smt021. Well, it worked, a little too good. I now have a scratched stainless sink in the guest head. :smt013 Two questions; how do I get the scratches out and how do I restore the bright finish to the stainless?:smt100

Brian,

I'm not sure if this is the fix in your case, but last year my faucets (both cockpit and in the cabin) looked like crap with some spots. Ithought I'll have to replace the cockpit one, but I've tried to use compound (http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wc...toreNum=10104&subdeptNum=10384&classNum=10385) and it brought them both back to life. The cabin one looked as new with no scratches. So, I guess it doesn't hurt to try a small hidden section.

If restoring to original does not work, try for a brushed look with the Scotch-Bright. Also Bar Keepers Friend is great on chrome and stainless, but may leave light marking. MM

If you want to polish them to a shiny finish, then wet sand them starting with 1200 grit and progressively working up to a 2000 Grit. After that, polishing with a good metal polish like Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish will have them shining very brightly.

Thanks guys, I guess I've got some wet sanding ahead of me.
