That's really sad. I've never been but it's sad to see a festival that has gone on for 33 years come to an end.
Do you have any information on what requirements the city imposed that caused the committee to shut it down?
Sad that the city will undoubtedly lose a lot of income from the visitors who drove or boated to the festival.

This festival seemed to involve the whole town, something for everyone. I can't imagine what problems they couldn't overcome. With all the money michigan spends on tourism advertisement to let this go by the wayside doesn't make sense.

It doesn't surprise me around here. There is talk of taking the ship portion out of the New Buffalo "Ship and Shore" festival that is every august. The new city coordinators are seeing the boat parade that went on for over 35 years as a hassle to deal with because of the bands they have in town.
I could care less about the town festival, I just assume take the shore portion away!

It was always something that my wife and I enjoyed while slipped up there. We still went up when we downsized boats and no longer needed a slip. Plus my brother is at Pier 33. This really sucks and bet it will hurt the local small mom and pops.

Well although it still is a huge disappointment for the locals I'm sure, I encourage any of you who enjoyed the festival to come to Saugatuck's Venetian Festival the last weekend in July. We have a ton of fun events including a huge dinghy poker run, a lighted boat parade and amazing fireworks display. It is only a short ride up the coast from St. Joe so come on up. Shoot me a PM or post here if you're interested and I can help you find a slip at our marina or give you some good anchorage places. Sorry to those in St. Joe who lost it, but these events are too much fun for us boaters to miss out on, so come on up!!!
