We just got back from a week long trip in St. Augustine...loved the place! Lots of things to do and see and the best beach I've been to ever. We're considering taking our Sea Ray Amberjack down next year to do some intracoastal waterway cruising, restaurant hopping and some near shore fishing. I'm looking for some recommendations on a marina to keep the boat in the water and a place to park the trailer for the week...hopefully one in the same. Also anyone got any ideas about the local fishing and whether there are any good artificial reefs within 25 miles or so from shore. Any input would be appreciated!

CoSA: St. Augustine Municipal Marina

St Augustine Marina just put in a lot of new docks. Right down town your next to every resturant you could think of.

Camachee Island is just south of St Aug. Marina about 1 mile.

There are different areas where you can get a mooring ball for 25 a night. 15 ,iles south on the Intercoastal is fort Mantanzas. Protected cove there is small fort there and nice beaches and good anchoring. North on the other side od the St. Johns River on the Intercoastal is Amelia Island and Fort George. Lot of exploring and great beaches along the way.

I was looking at Fort Mantanzas, we actually stayed in a condo right beside the park but didn't go in the park. I saw a few small boats using the Mantanzas inlet but it didn't look like it would work for our boat, anyone know if it's navigable or if it's just better to come in and out through the inlet at St. Augustine? Doing some research, there are lots of near shore reefs for fishing so we're going to give that a try too.

Thanks for the links, I'll go check em' out. I was looking at the Municipal Marina, that looks like a great location especially if you're traveling by boat. We'll be in a truck so we can pretty much go anywhere. My main concern was a place to keep the trailer for the week, the condo has no space for them. Also I'd like shore power as we keep the fridge on and I like the batteries on a charge overnight.

sounds good! I sent several of the marinas emails asking about transient slips and trailer storage for our trip. I can't wait to get back down there!

The conch house has a parking lot just down the street from the ramp. And it was free!! Great pace to eat and drink.

Eating and drinking are my specialties...I wish we had taken the boat this time, we just didn't know how much there was to do there by boat. And it was a last minute trip anyway.

If you plan on going out in the ocean DO NOT use the Mantanzas Inlet. The sand bars are all over and 90% chance of running into one. The St. Aug. Inlet has just been dredged this year and now is a lot deeper. Were you guys staying in Summer Haven near Mantanzas? The cove near the Matanzas Fort is a popular place for boats to anchor and pull up on the beach. Anchor or beach your boat just south of the fort and all will be well. On holidays is can get crowded but as you have probabbly seen it is a good size cove.

Mantanzas is closed for navigation. There is shoaling all throughout the inlet and the passages to the ICW. St. Augustine is one of our favorite haunts and we get there several times each year. If you can do several days stay at least one at the municipal marina as it is right at the Bridge of Lions and downtown is right across the street. We also like the area around Ponce Inlet in Daytona which is about an hours cruise south. The ICW going south to Ponce is a nice run.

I was looking at that and it appeared to be pretty treacherous...I saw a few small center consoles going in and out but that's it. We stayed at Summer House in a condo. We saw the cove when we went over to Marine Land, there were people throwing cast nets, swimming, exploring beaches...it looked like a lot of fun!
