I just did a full bellows, cable, trim sender job, so I was a bit concerned when I discovered water was slowly accumulating in the bilge. I would guess 1 to 2 gallons per week.
It definitely seems to be from the steering shaft. The water is slightly orange, and on the transom assembly their is fine orange coating below where the steering arm comes out.
I'm not touching it until the Fall or Spring, but I was wondering if shooting some oil or grease back in there with a long tube might help slow the deterioration and maybe help with the seal. Anyone had any luck with this?
This is and always has been a freshwater boat.
