Looking to confirm my choices or get some input on additional choices for a spring 2010 trip......I am looking to leave on Wednesday June 9th and ending the trip on Saturday June 19th

Day 1 Hyannis to Block Island (Champlins)
Day 2 Block Island
Day 3 Block Island
Day 4 Block Island to Mystic (Mystic Seaport Marina)
Day 5 Mystic
Day 6 Mystic
Day 7 Mystic to Newport (Newport Hotel & Marina)
Day 8 Newport
Day 9 Newport
Day 10 Newport to Hyannis

My initial thought is that you are spending too much time in Mystic. Are you planning to stay at Mystic Seaport? Because if not, then not sure you need more than two nights in Mystic...even if you stay at the Seaport, I would think two nights are sufficient. You may want to squeeze another stop in somewhere....how about anchoring overnight in Watch Hill, on your way to Newport?

Thanks Eric.....Maybe I will move Newport up one day and break my trip home and stay at Cuttyhunk or let that be a weather day....

Are you staying in the Seaport or Seaport Marina? Mystic Seaport Marina is not in Mystic Seaport but raher downtown near shopping and bars but within walking distance. Plenty to do but I would agree on the two nights unless of course you were going totake the short ride to one of the casinos. Regardless stop by D dock and say hi

Legal...yes depending on weather, that trip would be no problem for your boat. Typically the roughest portion would/ could be from Mystic to Newport. Absent a lot of wind, no problem. Ric

Wetpaint..both are good locations. The marina is "downtown" Mystic, but it's a small town. The walk from downtown to the Seaport museum is like 10 or 15 min. There is one more bridge to get to the museum, why not stay one night in each ? If you check out the website maybe at stay at there dock gives you admission in.?? Don't forget the aquarium (also walkable)

I would prefer to be near more of a nightlife/restaurants, then walk or taxi it downtown to the museum....I have been to mystic once (by car) and did the museum and walked that area.......I never went to the aquarium so I will do this time. Now what marina do you rec.

Okay, thanks a lot for the input. I'm actually a high school student, so I have to convince my parents that this is a good idea, and make sure it floats with our school schedules.

I know that we would all love to do a trip like this, and it would definitely be more comfortable going with other boats. In August, we tried to go from Falmouth -> Sakonnet, R.I., and we ended up turning around after Cuttyhunk, because of the enormous swells that day. Definitely could be done easily on a calmer day, but that was a spooky experience for sure. So just in case, we might need to duck into your wake, Wetpaint!

Also Wetpaint- Would you mind giving us some idea/estimate of how long it will take to reach each destination? Would we make it to the first stop with enough gas?!

The farthest we've gone so far has been Nantucket, and that was no problem at all.

Thanks again,
Brandon

Rough numbers off the top of my head........

hyannis to cuttyhunk 35 miles
cuttyhunk to block island 35 miles
block to mystic 20 miles
mystic to newport 35 miles
newport to cuttyhunk 20 miles

Do you ever do a Boston trip?

Seaport Marine is the way to go........easily walk to the bars etc - If you stay at the seaport itself your miles from everything except the seaport and aquarium

No... come to think of it the marina is owned by Noank shipyard in Groton, ct. 860-536-9681.mThe name is Seaport marine. The site you have is the museum.
