Have a new 2012 205 Sport. Will be moored in a lake and probably asking the kids too much to cover every night. Any input from someone with these on do you leave the carpets in and let them get rained on, or remove them for the times the boat will be uncovered?

My carpets stay in and usually dry out quickly in the sun. I haven't gotten slime or mildew from leaving them in the rain.

Wouldn't removing the carpet be more difficult than covering the boat?

Make 'em cover it. No sense in tempting fate with the bilge pump if for some reason you ever got enough water in to make a problem (run the battery out, then no more pumping).

If putting the cover on becomes habit, you won't have to worry about it again.

(mumbles something about getting off my lawn...) :)

Just my 2 cents..... I personally never leave my boat uncovered but Im also pretty anal about the boat, it take just a few minutes to cover it up even if you have to do a few times a day due to the weather. Nature's elements over time will ruin not only the carpet but your seats and everything else which could be very costly. A weathered boat could affect your resale value, I'd never purchase a boat that was not covered..

Same here, if my boat is parked for any length of time it is always covered with the full cover.

Yep, make it part of the routine and everyone will be glad they did, because it's a trade-off for cleaning time, too: the more its kept covered, the less elbow grease the kids have to apply to wipe vinyl and wash carpet!

Mine stays on the trailer at home in a shelter when not in use. I took a tarp, cut it, and strategically placed grommets around the edges. This fits over the bow rails and covers the bow from the cockpit cover to the anchor. The cockpit cover extends from the windshield to the transom locker and I have another tarp to cover the transom locker and swim platform. Most everything that the sun can get to is covered.

One day last year on the lake, a storm blew up. I left the carpet installed and did not put up the camper canvas. The cockpit got throughly soaked. No issues at all except the carpet. It was soaked and stay that way for the entire next day. Did not like this. Since then, I kep it in the cabin if I even think it might ran while on the road. Camper canvas goes up if on the water and looks like rain.

I used my pressure washer to wash it last summer. It took a couple of days in 90* heat for it to completely dry out. Mine looks brand new as I pull it up after each use. Too easy to pull it up and snap it back down. One day we will spring for sea deck or Flexteak....
