Sport 190 Season 2 Coming Up!

Have fun out there, sounds like your ducks are in a row.

Also, I have found a pair of tongs to be helpful retrieving lost treasure from the depths of the bilge.

Thanks, and appreciate the tip on the tongs! I think we have some around here somewhere.

Plans have changed, now it is looking like a good chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon and into the evening. Going to pull the boat up and do all the aforementioned work to get it ready in the morning now, then will cover it back up and put it away for the next pretty Saturday. Which is fine, did not want to rush it this evening, and I will have all morning to be able to get everything done and double checked.

Then the next pretty Saturday it will be turn key and ready to go.

Edit:
And of course get up this morning, check the weather, and now it is just a slight chance of isolated showers later today. Just my luck LOL.
Well at least I have all day now I can leisurely take my time getting all the stuff done to get it ready, make sure everything is operating properly, and will be well prepared for the next pretty Saturday...

Got it up in the driveway, prop tightened and locking tabs bent over properly, tire pressures checked and ok.
Put the muffs on and got water flowing into it, she cranked up easily and purred like a kitten, no warnings and gauges looked good.

All systems working properly, with the exception of my stereo. When we bought the boat new in Feb of last year, I upgraded the stock stereo with a new system, with an amp, and new speakers. When I took delivery of the new boat, I remember the guy telling me if I ever unhook the batteries, it will reset to the default and I would have to go in and change a setting to get the sound working through the new system again. Only trouble is, I cannot remember what setting he told me, and am not getting any sound through the system...

The stereo is somewhat complex with a ton of settings in there - pretty sure I have gone through each and every setting this morning and can not get it figured out. The menu navigation is not very intuitive.
The system is a Sony Bluetooth Audio System, with a Roswell Amp. I think the speakers are JBL.

The stereo certainly has power as I can navigate through the menu screen, just can't get the sound working. And they told me about that and what I would need to do, but just can not remember what it was.

Guess if I can't get it can always take it up to them , then I am sure it will be something real simple, and I am like 40 miles away from the dealer.

I am such a moron. So after resting for a while, I grabbed my cell phone as it has all the pics of the wiring for the batteries before I disconnected them last year. Starting comparing the pics to my reinstalled batteries, and saw the left battery had three leads attached to the hot terminal, and I only had two leads attached... ok, now I am getting somewhere.

So I fished around in the battery tray and found a red lead cable tucked away behind the battery tray in the floor that I missed, checked out where it was coming from, yep it comes from the Amp - duh!

Hooked that puppy up to the terminal, and voila, stereo is working beautifully!!

Ok so all that is left, is trying to find the knob that screws down onto one of the battery capture posts that holds the battery in - apparently that thing dropped down somewhere in the deep abyss of the bilge, can not see it anywhere. I am sure I won't find anything like the knob that came with it, but I am sure I can find something maybe down at the auto parts store close by that will work, a nut and washer if nothing else. Just need to make sure that battery is secure in place.

I am pleased to report season 2 is off with a resounding success!

We left early yesterday morning, beautiful day here and knew with it being Memorial Day weekend the ramps would get packed early. We got to the dock at just before 8:00 am and there were only a couple of trailer parking spots left - whew.

We got her launched and were in the water by 8:00 am. Could not have asked for a better day, winds around 5 mph and high around 85. Water temp was still a little too cool for my liking, was around 68F when we put in, so no swimming yesterday. But we had a blast, cruised up the lake up to our favorite cove near the dam ( about a 35 minute cruise). The engine started right up ( had already started it once in the driveway with the muffs to make sure all was ok couple weeks ago ), and it purred like a kitten.

Anchored in our favorite cove, and just relaxed for most of the day - wife sunbathing, listening to the stereo and having a most relaxing day. One thing about being on the water for us, no matter what is going on in our lives all troubles just disappear the whole time we are on the water. This alone is one of my favorite reasons for going boating. So dang relaxing.

Hooked up the Magma Grill around lunchtime and grilled some nice juicy burgers for lunch , lot of fun.
I did not even forget anything gear wise, but I had made up a checklist prior to going to help make sure I didn't.

The Mercruiser 4.3 MPI just turned over 36 hours yesterday. Just getting broke in good.

We just got done giving her a good cleaning this afternoon inside and out, covered up and stowed away behind the house till next time. Hoping for a repeat next Saturday!
Hope everyone is now getting to enjoy the new season, and having at least as much fun as we are.

so we went out to the lake today and boy oh boy what a great relaxing day, my baby performed flawlessly, the weather was great and the water was a little cooler but we were still able to fool around with the tubes. We purchased subs/heroes/ and had the cooler stacked awesome!!! I hope you all had a chance to get out there this weekend!!

Hey Guys....

Only wish i was living in a better climate still waiting for summer to arrive here in ireland... replaced my outdrive impeller back in February and still waiting to take my sea ray 185 out for a spin.

Question for you Don.... i noticed you mentioned you have a BBQ ... do you use this onboard your boat??? If so id love to see some photos of how you installed it please.... thinking about doing something similar this year.

Oh yes indeed! Onboard every time. I got the grill when I bought the new boat last year, and have used it just about every outing we have taken with it.

It is a Magma grill, propane model. Uses the small propane bottles. Magma sells several different attachments for it, you can mount it to rails, mount it to the swim platform ( I chose not to do this, did not want to put a hole in my swim platform).
As I have a bimini, I elected to get the pole mount - it adjusts to about any angle one would need, so it was just a matter of adjusting the mount to the proper angle where the grill was level when attached to the bimini pole, now it takes me all of about 2-3 minutes to attach the grill and be ready to go. And yes, it hangs out over the water. They also sell a charcoal model, but I did not want the hassle of the cleanup of the charcoal, I really like the gas model and it does very well for us.

The Magma grill along with the attachments are a little on the pricey side, but they are quality and I feel it was well worth the investment, should last me many years I would think. When not in use, I store mine in the aft Starboard storage compartment of my Sport 190 ( batteries are in the Port compartment, did not want to take a chance of the grill bouncing around and landing on the battery terminals). The access to the Port compartment on my boat is smaller than the access to the Starboard side, due to the anti skid panel under the cushion that flips up and down when the cushion is opened up ( used as a walkthrough). I got the smaller Magma grill and it tilts and slides through there easily though, the larger one would probably not. Even the smaller one, I can cook up a pretty good sized meal for folks onboard. Usually at most we will have two more adults and couple of children when family goes with us.

Pic of how mine is attached:

Hope this helps, and hope you get to make your first outing of the season here soon!

cheers for the quick reply Don.... i like your setup. Afraid i have no Bimini or tower just standard 185... we dont have anything similar to the magma here in europe not sure our gas bottles would fit it if i imported one.

Thinking about buying a mini portable like this one:

Id have to make up some sort of table which i could attach to the swim platform... like the idea of cooking up a few burgers out on the lake beats finding nowhere to dock outside my favorite restaurant and having to come home hungry... which happened twice last year.

Thanks again... enjoy the water!! No place like it!!

Yeah, the Magma is great - and they have several different types of attachments, undoubtedly you could find one that you could make work probably without a whole lot of extra effort, but if they don't offer them over there and not have the correct size for the bottles, won't do you a lot of good.

That one you linked to looks like a good possible solution. Once you get one that is fairly easy to set up, and relatively painless to operate, you will find you won't want to be eating at the marina restaurants again - at least not as much. We love cooking while on the boat, heck the money saved will pay for the grill - don't know about over there, but here the restaurants at the marinas are definitely not cheap. But they are fun from time to time.

We also have a small table with four legs, the legs fold up and we store the table in that same aft starboard storage compartment as well, when we cook we just set it up in the back of the boat, in front of the bench seat, and eat off of it. The 190 is a little limited on free space, but this setup works quite well for us.

Good luck in your hunt, let us know what you end up with and how you like it.

Not much of a season 2 here yet - augh...

Have not had any decent weekends so far, mainly rainy weekends. One weekend I was out of town on business.
So trying to be pro-active, I put in for the week of the 4th off, thinking the wife and I could maybe go out at least a couple of days next week and get some good boating time in. Checking the forecast, right now shows rain and thunderstorms pretty much every day next week. Unreal. Hopefully that will change as the days go by and we will maybe get at least one good day....

So here it is June 27th, and still have had just one boat outing. Keeping fingers crossed...

Well here I am with Season 2 drawing near a close.
It has certainly been interesting, not gotten to go out near as much as last year, mainly due to a very wet early summer for us.

Tomorrow is looking like will be really nice, mostly sunny and 96 degrees, should be a great day. We are heading out early in the morning for a full day on the water.
Contrast to next Saturday's forecast high of 81. Once it drops below 80 the wife does not much want to be out there.

Plus has been interesting in the woes I had this season, first with the boat not starting on the lake for us in one of our earlier trips, due to my foobar in hooking the batteries back up for the season. Then the pawl broke on the trailer winch, making it interesting loading the boat and trailering it home. And going out one Saturday after heavy rain the week prior, and the lake being up 5ft. Apparently hitting a submerged log and breaking part of the bottom anti cavitation plate off. Thankfully that was all it did.

All back in order now, well with the exception of the cavitation plate. Not sure I think we have been out 6 times this season, no more than 7 maybe. Hopefully tomorrow will be a great day and we may end up going back out on Monday with it being a holiday, will see what the wife wants to do. Sad to see the season drawing so near to a close for us here...

Hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday weekend!

This past Saturday, the wife and I went to the lake for what may be our last outing of Season 2. It was a beautiful day with high around 95, could not have asked for a better day. We put in around 8:15 am , and stayed out until around 5:00 pm. Of course as always, the day on the water just flies by.

Anyway, I thought I would share a few shots from the day.
