Do you splice your own rope to the chain if the rope has to be replaced. Mine is beginning to fray and wanted to cut off and start over with a new splice. I have no clue how to do this.

I tie a bowline, it's easy to untie and will not come out until you want it to.

I took my chain and anchor rode to the local Coast Guard station and found a nice Coast Guardsman willing to do the splice....he did a greeat job and recieved a nice "tip".....

I had a coast guard auxiliary person marry my rode to my chain ,it took him about 20 minutes and went through the windlass very well.

My local West Marine had a local resource that did it for $20 cash.

I just redid our anchor chain to rope splice with the help of an iPhone app called Grog Knots, has animated step by step video of chain to rope splice. This app also has step by step videos for all kinds of knots and is a wealth of info. I think it was 2.99 but well worth it.
