This has to be record for this part of the country!

We splashed due to heavy spring flood predictions . . . our boats would have floated off their winter blocks as the Mississippi is expected to rise 3 or more feet above flood stage. Amazingly, last weekend we were iced in with over 20 plus inches, but with a chain saw, and several de-icers the owner of the Marina, along with help from all the customers, was able to get all the slips open. It's nice to be in a small Marina (14 slips) as everyone pitches in!

For the record, we usually don't splash until the 3rd week in April (5 weeks from now)! I am feeling good tonight!

I'm jealous - but maybe not under those conditions! We still have rather large ice flows populating our marina on the south end of the lake (damn north winds!). Hope the ole' Miss doesn't give you any grief!

That's nuts but I love it. We have been counting down the days to get back out on the St Croix but now we might be buying a boat stuck on one of the Apostle Island's on Superior and it's not scheduled to be ready until May 20th :smt021

It's been a great March in MN a little snow in forecast on Fri/Sat but it won't last I hope....

Enjoy the early launch

I'm scheduled to splash a week from this Friday. Weather may be a bit cold and damp but the water is 43 degrees ice will not be a problem.

Andy, have you made sure that your insurance includes in-water usage in March? We store in-water, but aren't covered for open water until April 1.

That's crazy...only in Minnesota. People wonder why we always talk about the weather up here. Because one weekend you can have 2 ft. of snow and the next weekend your boat is in the water.

That's right next to Hubs Landing, right?

I wonder if King's Cove is doing this?

You are correct, we're just upstream from Hubs. Kings Cove was still iced in as of 6PM this evening. Weather service is predicting a crest around 18 feet which should make the Kings Cove folks scramble. Not sure of the height of their parking lots.

Well, my boat is not on their premises, it's high and dry in a pole barn in Hudson. I wonder if/how this is going to affect when I can put it in?

We're fine, nobody is going anywhere in their boats, the river is too high, full of debris and running very, very fast! All of our boats are still winterized and won't be summarized until mid-April at the earliest.

This happens up here about every 10 years or so except this is the earliest I can recall. Usually our melt/flooding is closer to April 1st.

I wouldn't be concerned if your boat is off premises. You don't want to be on the the Mississippi or the Croix when the water is this high anyway. Too dangerous with all the debris. If the water does not recede quickly, the Croix may very well adopt a "No Wake" for the entire river.

I'm not planning on leaving the slip for at least a month but I will be hanging out at the Marina or on my boat and we will be sleeping on the boat once we can run the heat.

Yeah, that is fairly common practice on the St Croix when the water level is high to prevent shoreline erosion.

Heard from my brother-in-law that slips his boat at King's Cove. they will splash in 2 weeks. He is hustling to get things done, about a month early for him.
Mine is on the hard a mile from the river so I am good to go. have to wait until the locks are open anyway to get to my slip. Hopefully in the next month. I still have some work to do before I splash it and not much time to get it done.
