Well on Friday we got done work a little early and went to the dealer to pick up the boat. We dropped it off the week before to have all 3 impellers changed as we did not know when they were last replaced. We picked up the boat and trailered it the last 5 miles to the marina. Once we arrived the wife and I slowly started to make sure everything was ready for launch. After everything was ready I went to get the plug that they put in my cupholder after winterizing it in the fall. It was not there. So I climbed down and looked and the dealer put it back in for me when they did the impellers. Good thing I checked because the top plug was only in by a couple of threads. So I tightened the top one and checked the bottom, good to go.
We backed into the water and started up both motors. Both started right up and were running good. So we backed in a little further and unhooked it from the trailer and let the boat idle at the ramp for a little while. I was standing on the bow and a solid alarm went off. I climbed into the cockpit and the port side temp gauge was reading 220. I shut it down and opened the hatch. Everything looked OK. I had the couple of people that were close by already telling me what was wrong.
I called up the shop and talked to the owner. He was sending out a tech right away. After looking around the tech told us we would have to put it back on the trailer and take he would take it back to the shop. Seeing the truck and trailer were still hooked up I towed it back to the shop were the owner was already moving boats out of the way to make room for mine inside. They said if we could find something to do for a couple hours they would fix it that night. After happy hour and dinner we recieved the call that it was fixed and ready to go. This was 1 1/2 hrs after the shop should be closed. We went back and after they removed the BIII to make sure they didn't screw something up from winterizing, and put in a new impeller again(which was OK) they found out the thermostat was rusted shut. They just wanted to recheck all their work first to rule out those posibilities. 7PM we were back in the water running good.
We changed shops from where we purchased the boat to a dealer just down the road. They are a Formula dealership and treat us like we purchased our boat from them. I've never been happier with their service.

That is great to hear! Thanks for sharing Scott and congrats on the splash! Now if the weather would just cooperate!

Now that is a great feel-good story. Congratulations on finding a such great service.

Good story.. also served as a reminder for me to order 2 new thermostats and gaskets to be installed along with the new impellers next week.

Scott,

The repair shop is certainly attentive.

You might want to keep an eye on this. I'm not suggesting your shop didn't find your problem, but BIII plumbing is not very effective with the water pump being engine mounted. As a result, it is very sensitive to air being sucked into the system through hose connections, performance of the pump etc,.

We had a season of mysterious over heat alarms and ensuing impeller and thermostat replacements until we added a through hull pick up. No overheating issues since. Mercruiser has a kit and spec for this by the way.

Good service is sometimes hard to find. When you do find it, they are always very busy.

Worth the extra couple of $$ that you spend for good service. After all it is YOUR $$!

Some service departments feel that it is thier money or the right to get to your money!

Are you allowed to post the name?

I had a nasty air-ingestion problem with one of my Alpha drives a few years ago. It took two teardowns by the mechanic to find it. First one I paid for. Second one I did not.

Good to hear the shop checked THEIR work first. When my mechanic started trouble shooting. . . .he went after the thermostat FIRST (which he never touched prior).

That's great service. Next time 'round have them test it at the shop running it on the muffs.

Have a great season.

Thanks for the tip Henry. I will keep an eye on it.
They did run the engines after their initial work but as they said they should have run them longer, must not been up to operating temp. The nice thing is they are actually alot less expensive than the other shop. Winterizing and shrink wrap last year, they saved me almost $800. The impellers were $300 less.
