Spiders spiders everywhere!!

I soak my dock lines in Downy over night at the start of every season, it really seems to work great but the effectiveness fades after about 4 months and I soak them again for a few hours while at the slip. I guess this could be the same concept as dryer sheets, I'm going to try the sheets in the Bimini top

It's been three days! What the results?

They built a house on the drier sheets.... webs all around....

I had high hopes, haha....

I think I'll try the spider spray next....

I didn't have this issue down in Florida. The marina was real good about maintenance and keeping things clean. Here, it's a fixed dock and people don't maintain their slip area. So keeping spiders away might be a bit more of a challenge.

Find out what the marina used in Florida. Keeping things clean isn't the only thing that will keep them away. I keep my area around my boat very clean and still have spiders.
A marina buddy stayed at some marina on the Bay and asked them what they used as there were no spiders to be found anywhere. They said a citronella base mixture. Somebody from our marina got the recipe and supposed to post it in our newsletter. I have a meeting tonight at the marina and I'll see if I can get it. If I do I'll post it.
We use to shot them with guns but that didn't work well either :):smt043

Oh well, I liked thinking they worked. Maybe it's something different I do that keeps them in check. haha

Does tempo have warnings about aquatic life? Many insecticides aren't supposed to be used near water.

After looking it up, I’m afraid so. Now that I read that, I’m rethinking this stuff......... I don’t want to hurt the enviroment.

My feeling is just don't overdo things. We use a product that is not for use around water, but our lake is large and chemicals get diluted quickly. The fishing is great and we don't have spiders on our dock. The beauty of a sprayer that attaches to a garden hose is how quickly you can do the treatment. It does not take five minutes to treat our 55 foot dock. That would last us all summer were it not for all the spiders we pick up transiting Great Lakes marinas. We do the last treatment is August. So......one shot in May and one in August. That's it.

Perhaps... I'm not saying they don't work. Some people here seem to have a different outcome. Maybe the spiders here were bread in a nuclear reactor... haha

You might be on to something there. I work at a nuclear power facility, and also work in the containment near the reactor........hmmmmm! Lol

I was all set to take Bounce to the boat this weekend.

Please say it isn't so... I so wanted an easy solution.

I did get some spider spray at West M this past weekend. Sprayed the lines heavy. This time of year is bad with spiders where I am.

Mud Daubers work really good! I mean if you can stand the mud daubers! haha

I broke open a mud dauber nest once, and found it stuffed with spiders. must be food for the young'un when it hatches.

I'll take Mud Daubers over spiders any day!! Anybody have a nest for sale?

Update:

Before leaving town for a week, I left fresh dryer sheets all through my canvas, on the dashboard, seats etc.
I took the boat out tonight, and trust me - the DO NOT work!

My boat had spiders & webs everywhere.

Back to the ol' drawing board...

I guarantee it was the freshest smelling boat in the marina!

Today I bought a 1-gallon pressure sprayer. Going to mix up some peppermint oil / dish washing liquid / water, and spray the heck out of things tomorrow. We'll see how that goes! :smt100
