Well I have spent two days buffing and polishing and I still am not done ! I bought some "buff magic" and it is working pretty well. We are spending Sunday & Monday on the lake and I'm trying to get it finished...damn I'm tired.

If you don't have the Porter Cable polisher, you're working too hard. The P-C is among the best, if not the best because it combines lots of power with light weight.

Best regards,
Frank

PC 7424 is the ONLY way to go. Mine is in good shape and just needs a coat of wax. Pretty amazing for 89! I'll be doing that NEXT weekend when I get her back home. As I'm waxing, I keep saying to myself it's worth it, it's worth it. Then I wonder why no one else is helping??

Well don't laugh but I'm using a harbor freight buffer. It feels like it weighs 50lbs. The PC is on my list, everybody says it's great... I am definitely getting some good exercise.

The PC 7424 will make the job a little easier. Just make sure you put the wax on sparingly, and have several white pads available for removal. Don't lean into it too hard, it will just keep it from rotating properly.
I spent several days getting my boat cleaned up and waxed before it went back in the water last week and it is already starting to look like I never touched it. The first time it rained I got the dreaded black streaks back down the upper part of the transom and the sides.

I have the same buffer. I've used it for years and it's done the job quite well.

I think the Porter Cable is nice for tight spaces and detail work but nothing beats the rotary with a wool pad on it. Zoom zoom.

PC 7424, another great tip from the board. The first couple boats I did by hand... got the PC 7424 this year, I have done all the cars and boat too, with time and energy to spare !

Another good tip was the Microfiber cloth set from Griot's Garage website!

I bought the HF rotary and it lasted me 3 hours. Worked great for the 3 hours. Now I replaced the rotary with a Makita and it's absolutley great for compounding.
I also have the PC for the polishing it's fantastic!.

Best of luck......and I don't know why you thought bigger was better like the rest of us that bumped up a little.

I just paid a guy $500 to do a 3 step process on a 40db, rub rail down. I thought it was a really good price. He was recommended to me by 2 people so I am pretty confident he'll do a decent job. I woud have done it myself, but I won't have time before the sea trial next week. If the sea trial doesn't go well, I guess I'm out the $500!

Gents,
Now that we have settled on the Porter Cable , what polish do you guys recomend for our Sea Rays

NICE! I love the feeling of wheeling the chalk off and amazing myself with how shiny old gelcoat can get! Pat yourself on the back!

Makita or PC, whats better overall?

It is hard to compare a pure rotary v. a dual action polisher. Both have a place in your arsenal IMO.

If you search on this topic you will get more plenty of information on this subject.

Nothing quite like a properly detailed boat. Pictures are great if you have them.
