The speedometer has not worked since we bought the boat in July. It's not the end of the world and for the most part I don't care however at night there is a speed limit on the lakes we boat. I'd guess that the tube is just plugged however there are pickup notches on both of the outdrives. My question is does anyone know which outdrive (port/stbd) the tube is attached to. And know of a good way to try to clear any type of blockage from line without pulling the drive. Boat is a 1999 with twin 350 mags and B1 drives. Thanks

I can not say for sure but most I have seen use the Starboard drive for the pickup.

I don't have a speedometer in my boat. I use the GPS when I want to know how fast we are going, it gives the speed too.

A small drill bit (1/16), hand turned in the notch usually works. Which one on twin outdrives, I don't know... there will be a tube on the forward end near the belows of the one used.

Just get this cheap little unit on ebay and you'll have no worries. :smt001

Do the drll bit trick, and then (if that doesn't work) disconnect the tube at the speedo and blow it out with and air compressor.

I had to perform that trick last season as even though the drill bit got some out the speedo still wouldn't work. There must have been some junk up further than the bit could get to. You don't want to blow from the outdrive in, as the junk could get lodged further upstream.

Once you think you have it cleared out, hook everything back up and then blow compressed air into the outdrive port. I was able to get my speedo to register various values to confirm it was once again working.

And now my new boat speedo doesn't work either...bought that way! I'll be fixing that over the winter.

Even if they do they're not accurate. +1 for GPS.
