I have a 2001 310 Sundancer with a Poly planar MRD 85i receiver and the two cabin speakers work great but the cockpit speakers have significant distortion if I turn the volume up at all. Before I change the four cockpit speakers I would like to verify the correct connection of the speakers. There are only four speaker wires out of the head unit, how should they be connected so that I can balance the volume between the interior speakers and the exterior ones?

Welcome! Are the cockpit speakers original installation? If there were four speaker wires, maybe the unit can only drive four speakers total. I’m no stereo expert, but that seems like a lot of speakers for the original unit. It could be that you need to install an additional amp to drive the cockpit speakers. A PO of our vessel was THE stereo nut, he had actually built an additional bench in rear of cockpit to house three Large speakers in addition to the heavy duty ones in the radar arch. They also installed two large additional amps in the companion way hatch to drive those speakers. All,this to say if you have four cockpit speakers in addition to the speakers below, that seems like the original unit is unable to power them all…..
