We just replace all our speaker with Fusion's. Our bow had 6.5", your size, and I used a Dremel to open the holes and we mounted 7.7" in the same spot. It looks like you have lots of space to open those holes and put bigger, better quality speakers right there.

People on here will spend outrageous sums of money on stereo equipment... I had the original stock Clarion and I replaced the head unit, amp & speakers with Clarion's top of the line stuff which I'm sure I'll hear from the audiophiles on here that it is still just a Clarion(=crap), but I am a classic rock guy and when I'm on the boat by myself it is cranked, crisp and clear... It Rocks IMHO. So, waste money if you want or ???

If you want to keep with the separate tweeter you may be limited in what you can replace with. Simple enough to replace the 6.5's with whatever brand/budget floats your boat. I replaced mine with JL audio 6.5s. My partying loud days are long past so they are clear enough to crank up as much as I need. I replaced the cabin speakers also with JL Audio but for those I used their automotive versions. Quite a bit less $ and they don't need UV and waterproof features because they are inside.

I believe both JL and Wet Sounds both make "convertible" speakers, meaning the tweeter can either be mounted in the grill to resemble the typical coaxial, or they come with adapters to move the tweeter off to the side like a typical component set - I know at least one of them do/did.

^^^^^ Neither the Wet Sounds Revo or Recon series have a remote tweeter and same with the JL M3 and M6.

Not many marine component options out there these days. Some will just leave the old tweeter as a dummy. Some have replaced them with LED pucks.

^^^^ Both did, and while they may be discontinued, they're still available through certain sources. JL M770 as a component set and Wet Sounds XS series as a convertible - but I get what you're saying. Probably need to hear back from redlightning as to what he/she ultimately want, their goal, their budget, their current system components...

Starting with we all are free to do as we please within our budgets.

I am in the middle of doing sound systems on both boats. NOTHING Clarion makes comes close to the sound of the JL product. One of the songs I have used as a test song is Stranglehold by Nuge. The upgrade to M3 JL's from the Clarion speakers in the cabin and Fusion in the cockpit was amazing. Same amps and head unit and wiring blew me away. Super nice upgrade and I should be able to hear very well at the helm underway on plane. (Couldn't before.)

But those M3's and old amps are way off compared to the JL amps and M6 speakers that went in the day boat. Just indescribable clarity at all volume levels makes listening to the music so pleasurable. I fully expect to hear individual notes while the big block pushes us at 50 mph, it is that clear.

It is about the great sound of classical at low volume for Sunday brunch on the boat, the enjoyment of music you can hear on plane, and big volume having a beach party from the boat with friends. Far from an audiophile, but I can easily hear the difference. If one cannot listen to the music and see the individual instruments playing in their mind, they likely don't need a great system or equipment, but if you can, get the best you can afford.

I listened to the systems of several friends and found I preferred the JL sounds. Then I looked at likely a 100+ internet articles on the topic of marine speakers. It is nearly unanimous that JL and Wet Sounds are in their own category, that JL has better sound and WS are louder.

Get the best you can afford you will never regret that...

Not arguing, just keeping it real. The XS/SW 650 and 65 were never a convertible or component. The first gen XS/SW 808 was. However, the 650 and 808 have been discontinued for 5 seasons now. If those are still sitting one anyone's shelves, not sure about their business model. JL did offer some components, but again, the original M and MX series have been gone for a few seasons now. The new M3 and M6 are grill mounted tweeters. Given the consumer demand last year, and still continuing this year, Id be amazed if anyone still had this new old stock still on the shelves.

I should buy stock in JL.

I love the sound the 8x8 put out. As for the 10" subs they sound ok and get the job done. they are free air subs and they dont give the deep clean bass that an enclosed ported box sub will . Looking to add two 10" subs that will be in a ported box and that should complete the system on the big boat.

Big boat: two 10: subs - six 8x8 at the floor and two 6" in the arch.
Little boat: one 10" sub - four 6"
