So what are you guys using to keep the spark plug wires separated on the 8.1s?

On my exhaust manifolds there is a m8 tapped hole on the ends, but I don’t recall a wire loom mounting there.

I’m not at the boat but I remember two wires go forward and two go back around the manifolds. I just decided to buy new wires as a preventative maintenance item and remember the last time I changed the plugs the wires just dangle there.

If you haven't bought plug wires yet, You may find the following linked thread interesting and helpful for other type options to consider of buying new plug wires for the Merc 8.1's/496's vs Merc OEM, Spark plug wires for 496 HO…Is there a real aftermarket option/solution? | River Daves Place

Thanks BT - I home recovering from surgery for two weeks now so I have read every thread so far and bought the Volvo Penta wires yesterday. :)

You should have plastic clips on each side (3 per corner 4 sets per engine IIRC) the wire pair sets run two and two forward and back from the coil packs.

Hmmm - I could not find those in any diagram. Next trip to the boat I’ll look but your thinking three - two wire separators from each pair of the coils to the plugs?

Yep. They just keep the pair separated.
