We are looking at a 2003 390 Motoryacht located in Harrison Township, MI. We would like too find a reputable Surveyor(s) for both a pre-purchase and an engine analysis (Cummins 480CE). Does anyone have any recommendations for anyone they have used/like in the area? If not, how would you proceed with selecting someone? Thanks in advance for your help.

Maybe call B&E Marina there in Michigan City? They are a good SR dealer and should have names of good surveyor on the east side of the state OR they will know a good local surveyor who can refer someone in East Michigan. I have heard good things about Tim Dry in Michigan City area

look up russ salliot (sp).Beleive he is in downriver area, been around for a long time ,knows his boats.

Earl,

You might try Dennis Biel Marine Surveyors, Harrison Twp. He did a good job for me in '07 surveying the 460DA. His number was 586-463-5526 at that time. Or give Colony Marine a call. They are the Sea Ray dealer in the area. The Cummins dealer is Cummins Bridgeway, Mount Clemens.

When I bought my boat 2 years ago, I used Tom VanDerMaas (313 910-9290) who is local to the area.
I thought he did a nice job.

Thanks everyone. We appreciate all of the feedback and information.

I love any excuse to fly, but unfortunately the Aeronca was my first and is no longer in the stable. We've been through a Cessna 195, Citabria 7EC, L-19 Birddog and currently have a Rans S7s which I would be happy to take you for a ride in. As a matter of fact, I plan to fly it to Michigan City this summer and could use a good cameraman to get some better ariel views of the marina (i.e. something without the power plant in the picture). We are currently in 8103 if you get a chance to stop by.

Thanks to all for your responses and information. I know we don't always get to hear "the rest of the story" on these forums but we wanted to let everyone know what happened here. The boat we were looking at in Harrison Township, MI turned out not to be exactly as represented by the broker. Our local Sea Ray dealer convinced us to look at a newly listed local boat (that didn't work out) and look again at a boat we toured last year. Last years boat (a 2004 390 MY) owners became more realistic about their pricing and after completing both a marine survey and a thorough engine inspection by Cummins, we became the new owners. We had to move to a different slip to accommodate the extra beam, but are settling in and getting used to our new (to us) aquaminium "Still Couldn't Say". Thanks again for all of your responses and assistance and I am sure the questions are just beginning.
