I am thinking of switching ports this summer to South Haven. I would prefer to be up-river a little ways as the wife and I enjoy cruising the channel people and boat watching! I was wondering if anyone has a suggestion on marinas and ideas for slip rates? Also would like indoor heated storage options for the area. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!! Shaun

We launch at SH but I do not know anything about the marinas there. Maybe we will see you on the water, or at The Idler. Hope the bump helps,

MM

Anything you can post would be interesting. We trailer our cruiser up.

Thanks,

MM

Quite a bit to do downtown in South Haven. If you are going to get a slip you should try the South Side with the city. You can walk downtown as it is less than a block and the beach is a long block the other way. We have Harborfest here in June which has the Dragon Boat races in the river. They also have a stage set up next to the South Marina for entertainment.
The Fourth of July is always a big weekend with the Fireworks. You can watch from the Marina or take your boat out. August brings Blueberry Festival and more music. The Steelheaders host a Fish Boil on Friday night that serves over 1000 people! Plenty to do for all these weekends. Call me if you have questions and I will get you to the right people. All restaurants are with in easy walking of the South Marina. You can also call and reserve a slip with the city with a credit card. It might be a 3 day minium if I remember correct. If you have kids they like it here and they do not get to far away. Plenty of short day trips from here. Saugatuck is only 17 miles up the coast and you can get dockage for a few hours at Coral Gables or Sargents Marine. Just call on channel 9.

We are in River Noire Yacht Club. Nice marina, good people, easy walking distance downtown and very easy docking with no current. Bekah Johnson (shores of south haven) offers a few rentals and there are some posted on their bulletin board.

I know this is an older thread, but time to revisit. We had decided to stay at our marina but are officially fed up with the lack of leadership and professionalism and are ready to move. I have placed a call to Bekah and waiting for a call back. In the mean time, anyone have new ideas or suggestions for a couple moving slips from Saugatuck to South Haven???

We were thinking of Saugatuck for next year, hoping to retire. Two questions, can you PM me with whom who you are frustrated, and how low is the water, can you get to Lake Kalamazoo (a dockmate with a 55 or so Bayliner was told not to try it)? Is there a permanent dredging plan in place yet?

PM sent regarding marina. To your other questions, Kalamazoo Lake is VERY low and we see people with small boats get stuck in it every weekend. There is a very clearly marked channel, but because its so narrow compared to the lake, people think they can shoot straight across. Thats a huge mistake. As of right now there's no "plan" for regular dredging.

Well just signed the contract today, next week we ill be moving to South Haven to our new slip at the River Noire Yacht Club! Hopefully its a good move. We have the option to buy but are just renting for now until we know if we like being in South Haven. Here goes nothing!!

I believe that a friend of mine is at that marina with his blue hull 2006 38 Sundancer. Steve Earls, great guy. You will probably see him messing around in the dinghy at some point I'm sure!

Looking forward to it! Do you, or anybody else know if there is a place anywhere downtown to dock a dinghy to go for dinner or drinks? I don't like to drive anywhere once we get to the boat.
