We've been doing alot of the Lake Mohave, and a few Lake Havasu runs from our home base in Riverside. We went to Catalina island once for an overnighter. I'd like to do more ocean trips but am a little dismayed at the standard $20- per day parking at the common local ramps. Just wondering if anyone has a line on cheap/better places to ocean launch in So. Cal.

This link that lists all the SoCal ramps. Some of the prices are a little out of date, and some have additional restrictions that you can't get from the chart. An example is Marina del Rey which only allows 48 hour parking unless you first call and notify them. Another item to be aware of, is like at Cabrillo and Mission Bay, there are no washdown facilities ...makes it tough to flush engine and rinse the boat.

One of the nicest ramps is at Newport Dunes in Newport Beach. Unfortunately it is expensive, and at no wake speed takes the better part of an hour to reach the ocean. Balancing that is that it is a great harbor just to cruise around in and it is one of the only harbors where it is possible to "dock and dine" (http://daggle.com/newport-beach-publishes-boating-guide-newport-harbor-1363).

$20 that's all? That's cheap.

Consider mine:

$35 for the Whitter Tunnel
$25 for use of launch
$20 a day to park

And you are only allowed 12 gallons of gas (excludes built in tanks). Fuel is usally $1.50 or more a gallon than Anchorage..

Man you got it cheap!

Kimo- Great Link!- I'm putting it on my Fav. thanks a bunch!
Ak- whoa-:wow:- I mean I know boating is the "rich mans sport" but man. From your sig pic it looks like it may all be worth it though. Guess I'll keep the whining to a minimum.
