Any tips and tricks for yanking a motor. Came home from navy island (Niagara River) last night and notice a bit of water in the bilge. Could hear some dripping so I begrudgingly investigated and found this little gem. The tiniest of cracks in the y-pipe resulting in this little trickle of fun. Why doesn't this shit happen at the end of the season lol. Anyway. Since it's the y I am mentally prepping myself to pull the motor. Would appreciate any tips and tricks y'all might have.

Cheers

Mercruiser manual and/or You Tube would outline the entire process. Outdrive has to be removed first.

If you can reach it. Sand the area clean and put a thick layer of 3M 5200 quick dry on it and around an inch past the crack, like a silver dollar size. Let cure 24 hours. You'll get a few more years out of the y pipe or until you have down time to replace. Been there done that 15 years ago.

That sounds appealing. I'm in Canada do we have a long offseason. Really only need to get a few months out of it. Also just found out when going to remove the drive that it has mcgard locking nuts on it for which I do not have the key. Insert expletive here. Lol

Well. FLAPPERS....

Both flappers in the y-pipe for who knows how long. To weld or not to weld ? That is the question.

5200 or some other metal patch/repair compound will be fine for a while if done right.

Abrade the surface, clean with alcohol and it’s never a bad idea to drill a small hole at each end of the crack to keep it from spreading.

Staus update. Went full replacement and upgraded to rubber flappers. The motor was out anyway so why not, plus I found an almost mint y-pipe for $150 :)

While the motor was out we also did:
Full bilge clean (looks like new)
Remounted new bilge pump
Spark Plugs
Oil Change
Filter Change
Drive service
Carb Service
General cleaning and zip tieing

All that is left is the walls and seats need to be put back in. Hoping to hit the water for a test run this aft.

Thanks all for your help and advice
