We live about a mile and a half from the freeway. It's a straight shot from home, about 1/2 mile to a left turn to go north, then a mile up to the freeway. The place where I make the left turn, there are two lanes coming the opposite direction. The inside lane goes straight toward the direction I came from. The outside lane makes a right turn but has to yield to traffic in my lane making my left turn.

Occasionally someone coming from the other direction and making the right turn to go north acts like they are not going to yield, almost like a game of chicken. I never chicken out.

A couple of days ago a young man driving a black Audi 2-door did just that. He pushed it right to the point if having an accident then put on his brakes. Hard.

I didn't flip him off though I was tempted to. I just continued on north driving about 40 in the 35 zone. He rode my bumper all the way to the freeway. He tried to get around me when we got toward the freeway but other cars prevented it. I made the 270* turn through the cloverleaf and he was still right on my tail. As I passed by the end of the Jersey Barricade he accelerated hard, swung across 2 of the 3 westbound lanes and took off. Fast.

I watched him go and guesstimated his speed to be close to 100. Apparently he was having so much fun he failed to notice the unmarked Ford Explorer in the center lane. He blew by the Explorer like it was going backwards. Wooooeeeee, he was Joe Badass in his hot Audi.

While Joe Badass failed to note the Explorer, the cop behind the wheel didn't fail to see Joe fly by him. He accelerated up to pace Joe for about 1/2 mile before the lights came on.

By the time I got there the cop was just getting out of the Explorer and walking up to have a conversation with Joe. Hmmm, 100+ in a 70.

Some things just make you chuckle.

So willful and reckless in my state is 8 points, automatic invitation to drivers school and sky high insurance rates. Life is about choices...

A few years ago we were coming back from the airport and a guy pulled onto the highway in his newer Corvette. He accelerated hard and weaved in and out of a few cars. By this time he was about 1/4 mile ahead of us doing around 80-100 but there were a few cars between us and them. Suddenly I saw a bunch of tire smoke and assumed he crashed into one of the cars he was weaving through. Turns out a deer ran out and he locked them up trying to miss it. Whole right front was missing from the Vette. I pulled over and the guy was pretty mad. Police showed up and the guy was crying that his car was ruined. I held back but really wanted to say 'if you weren't driving like an idiot you could have missed it'. But I refrained.
