After spending some extended time on the BBY, I'm starting to learn where some added luxuries would be nice to have. So far I have started out with:

1. Added a tank level and monitoring system to the Waste tank, and the fresh water tank. I bought this little module off of ebay for about $120. Seemed like a good deal since one from the manufacturer was $250. It uses these MODA sensors, which I like the idea of since I didnt have to drill into any tanks or deal with floats. I don't care for the fact that everything has to adhere to the tanks, but we see how long it lasts. Rather not open the waste tank if I don't have to. It has the option to add more tanks if I wanted to or even a float for the fuel tank if wanted it. You can see where I mounted the face plate in the foward storage compartment where my Genny controls are., I added a light to the storage compartment, as well as a battery monitoring gauge where I can flip between three batteries. The tank sensor system also has a battery alarm built in.

2. You guys are going to think I'm slightly retarted for this one, but I love it! I added a bow transducer, and indicator at my helm for monitoring when I'm going to hit something sooner and not rip my drives off. Obviously it doesn't work on plane, but that wasn't my intention. When we cruise back into canyons at slow speeds, I wanted a way to know what was under the bow before I hit anything with my drives. Works very well, and stays within about a 2 feet of my stern transducer.

3. LIGHTS! Never really realised how dark this boat was so I've been on an LED kick, think I'm about $200 deep on lights. Added new ones to the cockpit area, with plans to add more around the helm. Added a courtesey light to the stair way coming down into the cabin. Added another one in my rope locker, and also the aft cabin storage compartment.

4. Bow anchor switches. Got em for about $30 a piece...They are kinda cheap, but this was a temporary solution until I feel like spending $200 for the nice stainless steel ones. nI found when I'm out by my self trying to get anchors set sometimes can be a real PITA! Especially when my anchor switch is back in the cockpit....Needless to say, I love this mod as well, and I highly reccommend.

This winter I have decided I'm going to take on the task of building a bigger custom swim platform. The one on her is just to dang narrow, and after talking with some fellow CSR'ers, I think I can manage this project. I had talked with swim platforms.com about a custom one for the BBY, but they wanted a signficant amout more for the platform from their stock mold for the 268.

Also have fuel flow meters on the way that tie in to my Lowrance Display on my helm. Finally get some accurate burn numbers for my boat. Also got one for the genny. SO I will create a chart in the 268's thread for what kinda of numbers I see with my boat at various RPM ranges.

CHEERS!

mods look great...i love adding 'stuff' to my boat as well.....i only have one question relating to the forward mounted transducer....once you are moving forward and an underwater object sends a signal back to the transducer you will only have around 20 feet (and a couple seconds) to maneuvre the boat so that your outdrives miss the object...even moving forward at just idle speed that seems like it would be very hard to do....

It seemed to work wonderfully when I was coming over shallow water objects. I go pretty slow back in canyons, so it stays upto date with the correct depth.

Hey BBY!

Where did you get those LED cockpit lights? I'm getting a set of those for my 268. I also want to light up the helm area better too.

I agree, the 268's are hard to get around in the dark.

Thanks!

All the lights I have been getting from West Marine. Which is why they have been costing so much. I should shop more online.

Cool. Thanks. West Marine is a little expensive, but you know what you are getting cause it's right there in your hand.

Sometimes that is worth the extra $$.

I'll be stopping by there tonight!

Thanks,
Bob

All,

West Marine is expensive but also very handy to have close. Here is how I handle things I purchase there. They have guaranteed price matching. So, on my iPhone I have a free app called "Quickscan" which will instantly after scanning barcode show the best pricing for a given item. I scan it show it to them and they match! Have saved lots of $s this way. The difference in pricing on some items is amazing. I actually use it many places!

Have fun Mike

Holy S ... all these years why did I not realize West price matches - and to almost everyone including internet retailers .. (cough amazon) .. Thank you for bringing this up!!!!

I know, I use their price matching quite often....but that doesn't matter much with LEDs, they are pricey no matt what.
