5.7 Mercruisers
Had my first weekend out on the boat in Barnegat bay and took her up to Tices. Rafted up with 3 friends from the marina and had a great day.
Brought her back and got into my slip without a problem. A brilliant weekend and love the boat however I have some concerns that I would appreciate help on.

1. When cold my twin 5.7 Mercruisers (not FI) take a while to start. I pump them 4 times then give a little gas and it takes a while to start. Often I have to put them in full throttle to start and then run them at 1000 rpms for while till they warm up.
Once warmed up then purr along and stop and start no problem.

Is this maybe a carb or choke issue as my neighbor has same engines and his starts up immediately when cold ??

2. Second issue is my controls are very stiff and hard for me to give them a little gas. Is this a cable issue or control box issue? Is there a way to loosen them up or do they need to be replaced?

Thanks guys

My carbed 7.4 was always a great runner but slow starter. I rebuilt the carb last year and it improved a little. I just replaced the dist cap, rotor, plug wires, ignition sensor, & coil and it starts much quicker than it used too.

Yeah and my friend also said this is typical of carbed mercruisers. However my marina neighbor has the same and his start immediately.
I'm having the mechanic check it out next week just to make sure the carbs and chokes are working well
