My wife and I took a big step in boating a few weeks ago. we sold our much loved 2000 sea ray 330ec/amberjack and purchased a Ocean yacht 48 super sport. it is a bitter sweet decision since we really do like the sea ray but we also found that our family needs created a demand for more space. the ocean certianly has this. it is a little older than what we wanted but the previous owner sent it back to the ocean factory in about 2002 for a total refit of the interior as well as having a a total reglass of the bottom. The new boat will take a little getting used to. it does handle very well but is MUCh bigger and patience mest be used when maneuvering in tight spaces. One intersitng note is that I found it somewhat difficult to find a slip to accomodate the larger boat on the area of the chesapeake where I call home. It seems that there is a real demand for clean marina's that can handle 40'+ boats with wide beams. Good news is that it took me 2 weeks to sell the sea ray. I have found that the used boat market is still a buyers market and it is relatively easy to sell a boat if it is in good shape, clean and priced right.

Wow that's a great boat. Congratulations! I've always liked the lines of Ocean Yachts...except the one I'd have to sign on to own one. Good for you 33'!!

Funny, I just mentioned on another thread that for the most part Sea Ray guys aren't anglers...meaning offshore...and here you are moving to the big leagues. Where's the first trip?

brought it home from the canyon club in cape may last week, so I guess that was the first trip. we purchased it primarily for a family cruiser althought I do like to fish on and around the bay in the spring and fall. we will use it as a weekend getaway for the most part. It feels like a townhose apartment compared to what we were used to.

this was taken about 3 weeks ago. 48ocean ss

Doug,
Congrats. Where do you hail from and cruise in the "middle bay"? Loooove the sport fish lines and designs. Would have been my preferred choice but I run the boat on my own a lot of times and couldnt figure out how to work the lines and work the helm from the flybridge.

Maybe we can link up on the bay sometime.

I'm thinking about selling mine and moving up any pointers on were or how to advertise. I know were in different areas but just looking for a little advise

X,

I would put the boat in " Boats for sale" magazine to start. It's about $99.00 for three months with a pic and I think the internet ad stays forever! Newsday is also good. About $85.00 for 2 weeks with a pic in the ad. You can also try Craiglist but don't expect much. Some people have had success and I even bought my current boat from there but, I didn't have much success selling there. Last fall I put my boat up for a myriad of reasons and got my best responses from Newsday and Boats for sale. I actually had 2 legitamate offers but, ultimately couldn't pull the trigger and decided to keep the boat.

Thank you td I'm just not 100% I'm ready to move up yet so I'm not sure I wanna spend the money to advertise yet. I did put it on cg so not really sure yet ill c what happens.how long did it take to get your offers?

x,
I have bought and sold a few boats and had the same concern about how long it would take to sell my sea ray. It took me a whopping 2 weeks. I think a key to the quick turnover was a combination of approaches. I hired a broker but before I did, I contacted a local surveyor friend and asked him who was selling a lot of boats. Some brokers are far more aggressive than others. The broker did bring me the buyer. In my case, my sea ray was very clean, working very well and ready to show meaning all or almost all of my personal gear was off the boat when it was shown. I also made sure to be on hand to talk with the potential buyer with and even without the broker present. Brokers don't like this but as a buyer, I want to meet the previous owner and get to knwo them a little . This can give peace of mind to a potential buyer because they get a real feel for how the boat has been maintained and cared for and not as much of the 'used car' approach that some brokers will try. Finally, you have to price it right. It is a buyers market out there. good clean, well priced boats are moving. Yesterday, a good friend of mine got a verbal approval on a 2002 35' sportfish for about $80k below BUC value. best of luck with the sale of your boat!

Thank you for the advise I will probably bet a little more aggressive with the sale a little more towards the end of the season.

Gotta sell mine first. Anybody in mind. How about an even trade plus a year of free gas on your cc and a paid slip for the year.. Then you got a deal. Sell my boat I have a 33 sea ray express cruiser 97 fresh 7.4's from 2 years ago and a fresh westerbek last fall I fell in love with it now I really gotta get my boat sold.. Send me somebody quick and there shall b a reward

Theres alot of debates going on in our house lately, "we should have" bought this, "we should have bought that"
we really need a 420DB or 44DB diesels so we can cruise to distant shores!!!!!

Not fair all I want is a generator.. soon tho I'm looking at a 33 express cruiser 97. Hopefully I sell mine before it gets sold on me
